The Raid

*sorry in advanced for those who end up here when browsing for the movie "The Raid", as i have and others have on other various sites~

hmm...ok i'm actually lost for words.
just got back an hour ago from watching "The Raid" that's been buzzing around lately since it's premiere last 23 March. said it won a lot of awards at first screenings last year at international film festivals. most gave raving reviews, but some said that it's over-rated.
the plot's really simple: a raid on a criminal-infested building by elite forces fighting their way all the way to the top to take out the main villain.
Mad Dog (left).
the guy doesn't look much (Indonesians would say he looks like a regular 'mas-mas'), but when he's in action...

so my two cents would be that in terms of action, it was insane.
fighting choreography was so raw and crazy and at some points i found them, um, 'beautiful'. the martial arts style used is pencak silat, from Indonesia (serious upgrade for pencak silat, a style that hasn't been popular in a while here)

the guy who played Mad Dog was the highlight.
final fight scene was beyond cool--thanks to Mad Dog's 'cockroach' berserker-mode--though i kinda prefer the last two scenes before: the chemical room one where they gave the seemingly 'extra' character some lime light and was actually a pretty good fighter.good short scene on his part. the second was the 'door stabbing' scene (it makes more sense in context). oh, and one of the first fight scenes where he used a machete-tonfa combo! yes, i'm a sucker for double-wielding weapons.

my only complaint is that Indonesian dialogue is too...irreparable.
too cheesy it hurts at some points, because the Indonesian language is only good for any movie needing formal languages like poetic literature, old war and kingdom(?) movies.
that and the constant macho action-noise (the 'hu-HAH!' and all) that sometimes gets annoying, but other then that it was good (no matter what comments the audiences kept throwing constantly, on every fight scene everyone was silent).
also, from what my friend pointed out: the supposedly climax of the movie wasn't too good, kinda wasting the whole part before.

all in all i haven't watched an action movie with non-stop all-out no-holding back raw action and want to watch it more then once in a short period of time since Chocolate (Thai).
this movie is totally for those who want all that.
i'm very happy for this movie to be my first movie in 2012.hahaha
